Jobless man denies hurting woman

KOTA KINABALU: An unemployed man claimed trial in a Magistrate’s Court here on Tuesday to causing hurt to a woman.

Julhari Usman, who appeared before magistrate Wan Farrah Farizza Wan Ghazali, was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

The indictment provides for a jail term of up to one year or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Julhari was accused of committing the offence at the first floor of a rental house here at 9pm on August 28, 2023.

The court fixed March 14 to remention the case.

Julhari was released on RM2,000 bail with two local sureties.

Earlier, the prosecutio­n offered Julhari to be released on a bail of RM6,000 with two local sureties.

In reply, the unrepresen­ted Julhari asked for leniency from the court to allow him to be released on a lower bail amount.

“I could not afford RM6,000 bail, I don’t have any work at the moment and I have illness,” said Julhari.

Meanwhile, an unemployed woman will have her further case management on March 14 at a Magistrate’s Court here on Tuesday for allegedly participat­ing in an affray.

Norain Mohammad Ali, 20, who appeared before magistrate Wan Farrah, maintained her guilty plea under Section 160 of the Penal Code when the case came up for mentioning.

When the charge was re-read, Norain said she still pleaded not guilty to the charge.

She was accused of involving in a fight by scuffling and punching, at the roadside near a village in Penampang at 6.30pm on October 4, 2023.

If found guilty, Norain is liable to a jail term of up to six months or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The prosecutio­n informed the court that the documents to be used in the trial were still not ready and prayed for further case management for this case.

The court extended Norain’s bail, pending the date.

Norain was granted RM1,500 bail with one local surety during the first mention of her case on October 12, 2023.

In an unrelated case, a woman was fined RM1,200, in default, one month’s jail by the same court here for playing an online gambling.

Atikah Barli, 24, admitted to committing the offence in Inanam on November 7, 2023.
