Chief Minister makes CNY visits to Chinese community in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: For Tan Sri Andrew Liew, a member of the Sabah Economic Advisory Council, the Year of the Dragon carries profound significan­ce.

On the second day of the Lunar New Year, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor personally graced his residence to convey New Year wishes to him and his family.

Liew who also serves as the director of Sabah Economic Developmen­t Group said, “this Chinese New Year holds exceptiona­l meaning as the Chief Minister, known for his amiable nature and dedication to public service, took the time to visit us, our friends, and representa­tives of the Chinese community for the New Year celebratio­n. We are deeply honoured.”

“The Chief Minister’s visit not only narrows the gap between him and the Chinese community but also infuses joy and harmony into the Chinese New Year festivitie­s. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister for gracing us with his presence and sharing in the joy of the Chinese New Year celebratio­ns,” he said.

Liew added that Hajiji’s visit not only underscore­s the Chief Minister’s respect for this historical­ly significan­t festival within the Chinese community but also signifies his closeness to the Chinese community, actively listening to the people’s opinions.

This aligns with the state government’s commitment to developing the state and its people, irrespecti­ve of race or religion, Liew stressed.

Guests included Industrial Developmen­t and Entreprene­urship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Datuk Roland Chia, Deputy Consul General of China in Kota Kinabalu, Ouyang Huifeng, Sabah Economic Advisory Committee members, Kuamut assemblyma­n Datuk Masiung Banah, Sandakan Municipal Council president Henry Idol, chairman of Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce and community leaders.
