Successful past collaboration in Breast Cancer Awareness Programme
KOTA KINABALU: In a significant stride towards promoting breast cancer awareness and early detection, the Association of Private Practitioners Sabah (APPS) and Permai Polyclinics Group (PPG) joined hands with Kinabalu Pink Ribbon (KPR) for a Breast Cancer Awareness Programme throughout November 2023.
The collaboration marked a substantial achievement as President Dr Devadas Ramankutty, on behalf of APPS, presented a cheque amounting to RM10,440 to KPR.
The funds were raised through a commendable initiative where 348 women availed themselves of breast screening services at a nominal fee of RM30 per patient. The entire proceeds from this endeavour were dedicated to supporting KPR’s noble mission for the local population.
Highlighting their commitment to the cause, PPG, under the leadership of founder Datuk Dr James Jeremiah, provided crucial logistical support for this vital fund-raising project. The commitment of PPG’s members underscored their belief in the positive impact this initiative could have on the community, emphasizing the importance of breast cancer awareness.
At Permai Polyclinic, Dr Dayang Corieza Febriany, the attending radiologist, ensured the reliability and effectiveness of the program. Her dedication reflected a commitment to advancing healthcare and making a tangible impact on those affected by breast cancer.
Dr Mohamed Arif Hameed Sultan, an experienced general surgeon, served as an advisor, contributing his expertise to enhance the strategic planning of the Breast Cancer Awareness Programme, ensuring its reach and positive impact on as many individuals as possible.
The collaborative efforts of PPG and APPS, along with Dr Dayang Corieza and Dr Mohamed Arif, instilled confidence in the community that the Breast Cancer Awareness Programme was in capable and caring hands. Cases requiring further management were directed to the health facilities selected by the clients.
Dr Jeremiah emphasized, “PPG and APPS aligned with the mission of KPR. It was of utmost importance that the public took the opportunity provided by this screening program, understanding the fundamental role that early detection played in the protection of lives. By participating, individuals not only contributed to KPR’s cause but also proactively safeguarded their own well-being. We believed that the act of participation went beyond a mere contribution; it became a personal commitment to fostering a culture of health and well-being within the community and ultimately leading to a collective effort in the fight against breast cancer.”
The success of this collaborative initiative highlighted the potential for positive change when organizations and professionals united for a common cause.
The commitment to breast cancer awareness and early detection showcased by APPS, PPG and KPR was a testament to the transformative impact that could be achieved through collaborative efforts in healthcare.
