Petronas holds Uplifting Lives Festive programme

KOTA KINABALU: Petronas celebrated Chinese New Year with the recipients of Yayasan Petronas’ Uplifting Lives Festive programme, spreading joy among the community during the festive season at Raia Hotel, here, on Friday.

The celebratio­n was graced by Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environmen­t, Datuk Christina Liew, who handed over essential food packages and jars of festive goodies to 50 of 100 recipients identified for the programme this year.

The programme’s partner, Sabah Social Welfare Department (JPKA), will arrange the delivery of the packages to the rest.

Speaking at the auspicious occasion, Liew commended Yayasan Petronas for its efforts to reach out and share the joy with the community at every main festival in the country.

“The Foundation’s benevolent gesture becomes an inspiratio­n and motivation for us to continue moving towards a loving and inclusive society.

“On behalf of my ministry, I would like to express my gratitude to Yayasan Petronas for its caring spirit and concern.

“Appreciati­on is also due to the Sabah Social Welfare Department for its cooperatio­n in making Petronas’ Uplifting Lives Festive Programme a success,” she said.

The minister noted that Yayasan Petronas’ consistent meaningful contributi­on to those in need, especially during the Chinese New Year and other festivals, reflects its firm commitment to corporate social responsibi­lity.

“I am confident that the Foundation will continue to implement its social impact programme in Sabah in particular, and in Malaysia in general,” she said.

Earlier, General Manager of Petronas Sabah and Labuan Regional Office, Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab in her speech said: “Chinese New Year is a time for celebratio­n, unity and hope. Through our Uplifting Lives Festive programme, we aspire to bring joy to the communitie­s, foster connection and make a meaningful difference in our community.”

Held annually in conjunctio­n with major celebratio­ns in Malaysia, namely Chinese New Year, Aidilfitri, Kaamatan, Gawai, Deepavali and Christmas, the Uplifting Lives Festive programme is an integral part of Yayasan Petronas’ community well-being and developmen­t strategy.

Siti Ayu said Yayasan Petronas carries out various community programmes focusing on three main pillars namely education, community developmen­t and wellbeing, and environmen­t, underscori­ng the foundation’s dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of communitie­s.

According to her, a total of 2,100 families across the nation, including 100 in Kota Kinabalu and 50 in Labuan, have been identified as recipients for the programme in conjunctio­n with Chinese New Year 2024.

Also present were JPKA Deputy Director (Operations), Ali Hassan Kahar, Head of Yayasan Petronas Operations, Tengku Noraida Tengku Mahmud, and Petronas Sabah and Labuan Regional Office Senior Manager, Jasper J. Diego.
