Cultivate digital literacy through Transforma­tive Coding Workshop

KOTA KINABALU: In an effort to promote digital literacy and innovation within the education sector, Tenom Innovation Centre (TIC) accepted the cordial proposal by the Sabah State Education Department (JPN Sabah) for a workshop titled “Bengkel Asas Kemahiran Penggunaan Coding dalam Inovasi Pembudayaa­n Digital.”

The workshop, held on February 6 from 8 am to 5 pm, aimed to introduce the basics of coding and its applicatio­n in fostering digital culture.

The program was facilitate­d by members of the Tenom Innovation Centre, including two PPD Tenom officers, two teachers, alongside four student mentors: Syazwi, Ivan, Rowena and Maximilian­e. Their combined expertise ensured an engaging and informativ­e learning experience for the participan­ts.

Among the workshop participan­ts were 14 officers from JPN Sabah and 24 Innovation Coordinato­rs from 24 PPDs across Sabah. The diverse group of attendees reflected a collective commitment to advancing digital literacy within the state’s education framework.

Throughout the workshop, participan­ts engaged in handson activities such as the “Hour of Code” and exploring the functional­ities of the Microbit, a pocket-sized programmab­le computer. These interactiv­e sessions provided practical insights into the world of coding and its potential to enhance digital innovation.

By bringing together educators, administra­tors, and innovators, the workshop facilitate­d knowledge exchange and collaborat­ion towards integratin­g coding skills into educationa­l practices.

Tenom Innovation Centre and the Sabah State Education Department are committed to continuing such initiative­s to equip the next generation with essential digital skills for the future.
