NGO always ready to help consumers in Sabah

-

KOTA KINABALU: The National Consumer Action Council (MTPN) Sabah is always ready to assist consumers in the state who are facing various issues.

Its president, Kevin Lo Kian Min, said the non-governmental organisation (NGO) had received over 100 complaints from consumers since the start of this year, and it had resolved around 70 of them.

He said most of the complaints were regarding dishonest or negligent contractors as well as scams, in which the latter is seeing scammers become even harder to detect and prevent in the recent times, evident in social media.

In this regard, he said MTPN Sabah will do its part in tackling the issues by holding programmes to raise awareness on scammer tactics and consumer rights.

“MTPN Sabah, which was established two years ago, will continue to protect the rights of consumers, and it is hoped

Any complaint, no matter big or small, can be made to us, and we will try our best to resolve the problems, free of charge, by forwarding them to the relevant parties such as the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).

that the consumers can also familiarise themselves with the eight consumer rights, which not all are aware of.

“Any complaint, no matter big or small, can be made to us, and we will try our best to resolve the problems, free of charge, by forwarding them to the relevant parties such as the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN),” he said.

Kevin said this after the MTPN Sabah Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration at K Avenue, here, on Sunday, which was held to also celebrate the recipients of MTPN’s Consumer Choice Awards (CCA) and Sabah Trusted Brand Awards (STBA).

He said aside from the award recipients, the celebration was also attended by government agencies to allow the companies to tighten their relationship with the other party. Kevin added that MTPN Sabah had been monitoring its award recipients to ensure they maintain the provision of good service and to ensure they do not hike up their prices unreasonably.
