Redevelopment, betterment of Prince Philip Park main priority of TAED

KOTA KINABALU: The redevelopment and betterment of Prince Philip Park, Tanjung Aru is currently the main priority of Tanjung Aru Eco Development Sdn Bhd (TAED).

TAED chairman Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said this during a press conference on Thursday to launch the company’s latest brochure at the Orchid House, Prince Philip Park Tanjung Aru.

When asked whether TAED will be doing reclamation works soon, Pandikar said that for the time being, the company would prioritise redeveloping Prince Philip Park so that it can be better enjoyed by the public, while attracting tourists with its natural beauty.

“The controversy facing TAED before was public access, and many are still unsure that TAED’s development project is meant to benefit the people. We’re here to dispel their doubt once and for all,” he said.

Pandikar added that alongside rejuvenating Prince Philip Park to be a place of leisure and also a nexus where the younger generation can learn about the history of Sabah, TAED will also be doing reparation and rejuvenation works on areas of the beach that are critically damaged by erosion and pollution.

He said that with the redevelopment of Prince Philip Park to become a beautiful open space where locals can enjoy nature with their families, the transformation is also hoped to attract investors.

Currently, there is a 4.6acre plot of land that has been earmarked for hotel development. TAED will be looking for the right partner investor to develop that land.

However, the development scale will only be in tandem with the current needs of the city.

The press conference was officiated by Pandikar. Also present was TAED general manager Datuk Jake Jikiun Nointin.

Established in 2013, TAED is a brainchild of the Sabah State Government that is aimed at tackling two critical issues at once: the conservation and rejuvenation of Tanjung Aru Beach and Prince Philip Park, as well as creating a sustainable economic generator that will attract foreign investment and provide employment opportunities for future Sabahans.

At its core, TAED is sustainability and economyfocused with its best interest for the people of Sabah. The TAED project’s ultimate aim is to preserve Tanjung Aru Beach’s legacy for future generations while creating an engine for economic growth.
