Luyang UPPM to hold CNY celebration

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Luyang Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM) will be organising a Chinese New Year celebration on March 1.

Its chief, Gee Tien Siong Gee, said the celebration will be held at Lintas Square, behind Maybank, from 5pm onwards.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Gee said it is the second time the UPPM Luyang is organizing such a celebration.

“We are only holding our celebration after the 15 days of the lunar new year festival as this is the time when most people are free to join in the festivities. We did not want to clash with other celebrations that are organized during the 15 days of the Chinese New Year celebration,” he said.

According to Gee, all are invited to the celebration which is aimed at strengthening and fostering goodwill among the rakyat in Luyang and surrounding areas.

He said that they have extended an invitation to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor to be the guest of honour.

“We have also invited City Hall Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah who has accepted and confirmed his attendance with his wife,” he added.

Gee also disclosed that there will be lion dance performances as well as performances from students of schools around Luyang area.

“We are also offering 40 booths for those interested in doing business such as selling food and beverages on that night. The booths are on a first come first served basis and those interested can contact Nelson Tang at 0168231163,” he said.

Gee added other than the entertainment, the organisers will prepare 1,000 red packets to be distributed to the children and elderly as well as distributing mandarin oranges to those joining in the festivity.
