Tanjung Aru traffic crisis worsens

-

KOTA KINABALU: The traffic jam at Tanjung Aru Beach has reached a new peak, drawing public outcry.

Parti Warisan vice president Datuk Junz Wong has questioned the GRS government’s inaction and lack of effective solutions to this issue.

Tanjung Aru, known for its scenic beaches and popular tourist attractions including the Kinabalu Golf Club, Yatch Club and Shangrila-Tanjung Aru Resort, has seen a marked increase in traffic congestion. The cause, as highlighted by Wong, is the influx of both tourists and locals flocking to the area for recreation. The situation is aggravated by rampant double parking along the critical two-way road servicing these major destinations.

“I’ve raised this issue previously, but no action has been taken by the government until today,” Wong expressed in a statement, voicing the frustrations of many residents and visitors alike.

Wong urged the government to devise and implement a comprehensive plan. He suggested the creation of an alternative route system with a clear ‘one way in, one way out’ road to effectively manage the traffic flow.

Additionally, he emphasized the need for constant monitoring and enforcement by relevant authorities to penalize and deter inconsiderate parking behaviors that contribute significantly to the congestion.

This situation at Tanjung Aru is more than a mere inconvenience, it reflects deeper issues of urban planning and governmental responsiveness.

“Ignoring is definitely not the way,” asserted Wong, calling on the government to fulfill its fundamental duty of solving the people’s problems.

“When there is a will, there is a way,” he concluded, highlighting the urgent need for government intervention to alleviate the burdens faced by the people of Tanjung Aru.
