KOTA KINABALU: TABS Safa Bandaraya needs to hold a football carnival-style competition in line with its collaboration with professional club Sabah FC, in compliance with licensing conditions of the Malaysian Football League (MFL).

Sabah Football Association (Safa) vice president I, Datuk Alijus Sipil, said competition held in a carnival atmosphere was a must apart from carrying out its development training programme every weekend for its young trainees.

“It is very important as to comply with the MFL licensing conditions and that is why TABS Safa Bandaraya and Sabah FC have signed the MoU for the purpose,” he said when launching the TABS under-10 and undereight football carnival at TABS Sukma training venue here on Sunday.

Alijus, who is also TABS Safa Bandaraya advisor, said the competition would provide a platform for TABS trainees to practice what they have learnt during training in real competition.

Apart from that, it is also an opportunity for all including TABS committee members, coaches and the trainees parents to close bond.

“I’m sure the children will be happy when given the chance to play in a real tournament, in this case in the football carnival,” he added.

Alijus went on to express his hope that TABS Safa Bandaraya will continue to be a role model when it comes to football development programme by providing guidance and advises to budding footballers so that they would make further progress.

“TABS in fact has produced many players that went on to play for the Youth Cup, President Cup and senior team and this must continue for the betterment of the sport,” he said.

Meanwhile, ‘Liverpool’ emerged as champions in the under-10 category of the football carnival followed by ‘Real Madrid’ while ‘Arsenal’ and ‘AC Milan’ settled for joint third placing.

In the under-eight category, ‘Manchester United’ came out top with ‘Manchester City’ in second place while ‘Wolves’ and ‘Juventus’ shared the third place.
