SICC signs agreements with hotels and educational institute
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Friday signed significant agreements, marking a pivotal moment in enhancing the region’s hospitality and educational landscape.
SICC has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with six distinguished hotels and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with an educational institution, solidifying its commitment to excellence in hospitality services and educational collaborations.
The signing ceremony, held at SICC, signifies a new era of collaboration aimed at fostering growth and innovation within Sabah’s burgeoning tourism and education sectors.
Under the terms of the MOA, SICC has partnered with six renowned hotels in Sabah, Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Kota Kinabalu, Sutera Harbour Resort, Hilton Kota Kinabalu, Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu, Citadines Waterfront Kota Kinabalu and Hotel Sixty3.
These partnerships are poised to elevate the hospitality experience for visitors attending conventions, conferences and events hosted at SICC. By leveraging the collective expertise and resources of these esteemed establishments, SICC aims to provide attendees with unparalleled accommodation options and world-class amenities, ensuring memorable experiences for every guest.
In addition to its collaborations with leading hotels, SICC has also entered into an MoU with North Borneo University College. This partnership was designed to foster academic exchanges, research collaborations, and educational initiatives aimed at advancing knowledge and skills within the local community.
Through joint efforts with these esteemed institutions, SICC endeavours to promote lifelong learning, professional development, and educational excellence, contributing to the socio-economic advancement of Sabah.

The signing ceremony was in conjunction with the official closing ceremony of the Business Events Forum which was held from Feb 29 to March 1 and was attended by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, Khairul Firdaus Bin Datuk Akbar Khan.
The gathering attracted approximately 500 delegates, comprising not only local Business Events professionals but also attendees from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Sarawak, underscoring the significance of collaboration and synergy in advancing the business events sector.
At the event, Khairul Firdaus said that the tourism sector contributes to roughly 14 per cent of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and is responsible for 2.3 million jobs yearly.
