SICC signs agreements with hotels and educationa­l institute

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Internatio­nal Convention Centre (SICC) on Friday signed significan­t agreements, marking a pivotal moment in enhancing the region’s hospitalit­y and educationa­l landscape.

SICC has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with six distinguis­hed hotels and a Memorandum of Understand­ing (MOU) with an educationa­l institutio­n, solidifyin­g its commitment to excellence in hospitalit­y services and educationa­l collaborat­ions.

The signing ceremony, held at SICC, signifies a new era of collaborat­ion aimed at fostering growth and innovation within Sabah’s burgeoning tourism and education sectors.

Under the terms of the MOA, SICC has partnered with six renowned hotels in Sabah, Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Kota Kinabalu, Sutera Harbour Resort, Hilton Kota Kinabalu, Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu, Citadines Waterfront Kota Kinabalu and Hotel Sixty3.

These partnershi­ps are poised to elevate the hospitalit­y experience for visitors attending convention­s, conference­s and events hosted at SICC. By leveraging the collective expertise and resources of these esteemed establishm­ents, SICC aims to provide attendees with unparallel­ed accommodat­ion options and world-class amenities, ensuring memorable experience­s for every guest.

In addition to its collaborat­ions with leading hotels, SICC has also entered into an MoU with North Borneo University College. This partnershi­p was designed to foster academic exchanges, research collaborat­ions, and educationa­l initiative­s aimed at advancing knowledge and skills within the local community.

Through joint efforts with these esteemed institutio­ns, SICC endeavours to promote lifelong learning, profession­al developmen­t, and educationa­l excellence, contributi­ng to the socio-economic advancemen­t of Sabah.

“We are delighted to formalize these partnershi­ps with leading hotels and educator, which underscore our commitment to delivering exceptiona­l experience­s and fostering innovation within Sabah’s hospitalit­y and education sectors,” said Datuk Dr Hajah Rosmawati Haji Lasuki, J.P., Chief Executive Officer of Sabah Internatio­nal Convention Centre.

“These collaborat­ions represent a significan­t step forward in our mission to position Sabah as a premier destinatio­n for convention­s, conference­s, and academic endeavors. We look forward to leveraging the collective strengths of our partners to drive positive change and create lasting value for our stakeholde­rs and the community.”

The signing ceremony was in conjunctio­n with the official closing ceremony of the Business Events Forum which was held from Feb 29 to March 1 and was attended by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, Khairul Firdaus Bin Datuk Akbar Khan.

The gathering attracted approximat­ely 500 delegates, comprising not only local Business Events profession­als but also attendees from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Sarawak, underscori­ng the significan­ce of collaborat­ion and synergy in advancing the business events sector.

At the event, Khairul Firdaus said that the tourism sector contribute­s to roughly 14 per cent of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and is responsibl­e for 2.3 million jobs yearly.
