17 schools in Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan receive RM376,000 contribution
KOTA KINABALU: PTTEP Malaysia extends its CSR programme to a transformative endeavour this year with contribution through Malaysia Relief Agency (MRA) that aims to uplift and empower the lives of more than 500 students from diverse communities in Sabah and Sarawak.
In collaboration with the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA), PTTEP Malaysia contributed RM376,000 and hosted several sustainable initiatives to benefit 17 schools in Papar, Beaufort, Ranau, Bintulu and Kuching and Labuan.
This contribution, made under MRA’s We Care Sarawak and We Care Sabah programmes, demonstrated PTTEP’s commitment to three out of its four corporate social responsibility (CSR) pillars, namely Basic Needs, Education and Environment.
A significant portion of the contribution was channelled towards crucial school resources such as students’ back-to-school supplies, care kits, food supplies and facilities, while the rest were directed toward initiatives of education,
environment and community empowerment in partnership with government agencies.
“PTTEP has extended its CSR engagement this year by partnering, through MRA, with more government agencies in Sarawak and Sabah, including the Papar District Health Department, Beaufort District
Health Office and Bintulu
as well as Tatau Fire and Rescue Stations. With their support and resources, we were able to go beyond traditional donations and provide environmental stewardship, fire prevention and emergency response, health talks as well as career exploration initiatives,” said Denkey Thatchaichawalit, Head of Malaysia Sarawak Asset, in a statement on Saturday.
In alignment with the company’s Safety, Security, Health and Environment (SSHE) initiative, children from two schools in Sarawak were also given the opportunity to learn and witness a fire prevention and emergency response demonstration conducted by fire and rescue stations from the Bintulu and Tatau branches.
In Sabah, students from two schools attended health talks on personal and dental hygiene, conducted by representatives from the Sabah Health Department.
Contributing to environmental conservation efforts, students and volunteers from PTTEP Malaysia participated in a tree planting initiative, creating a PTTEP Mini Garden or Taman Mini PTTEP at five schools in Sabah, complete with various types of fruit trees and a mini herb garden.
To ensure a clean and conducive learning environment, PTTEP and MRA volunteers also joined the students and teachers of six schools in a gotong-royong activity within their premises.
Secondary school students enjoyed a career talk by volunteers from PTTEP Malaysia, who shared valuable insights on career opportunities and advice on preparing for the transition into the workforce. PTTEP volunteers took the opportunity to provide students with some insights and inspiration about the industry to shape and expand the local talent pool in empowering economic development opportunities in the near future.
“We are proud to work with MRA because they share our vision and commitment to foster education, community well-being and environmental consciousness. By joining hands, we are able to contribute in a more meaningful manner to deserving communities,” Denkey added.
