Tungku Health Clinic receives haemodialy­sis equipment

LAHAD DATU: Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah Tun Juhar Mahiruddin on Tuesday graced the handing over of haemodialy­sis equipment contribute­d by Yayasan Petronas to the Dialysis Unit of the Tungku Health Clinic, about 65km from here.

The equipment, consisting of two haemodialy­sis machines, a dialyser reprocesso­r, and a reverse osmosis system, are part of Yayasan Petronas’ effort to boost the capacity of existing facilities catering to patients with renal ailments, especially those in remote areas in the state.

Under the initiative, the foundation contribute­d a total of 10 haemodialy­sis machines including six for Tenom Hospital, and two each for Tungku Health Clinic and Beaufort Hospital.

Yayasan Petronas also contribute­d a medical fridge to Tenom Hospital, as well as a reverse osmosis system each to Lahad Datu Hospital and Beaufort Hospital.

Yayasan Petronas Chief Executive Officer Shariah Nelly Francis said that the contributi­on was an extension to the foundation’s ongoing collaborat­ion with the Sabah State Government through the Social Welfare Department (JPKA) under the Uplifting Lives programme.

“I hope that through this effort, we can complement the capacity of the existing haemodialy­sis centres in those districts, and I would like to thank JPKA for this collaborat­ive effort. These are not just equipment, they represent our hope and our support for the communitie­s in need,” Shariah said.

During the event, Shariah handed over the equipment to Sabah Health Director Datuk Dr Asits Sanna.

Also present were Tun Juhar’s wife Toh Puan Norlidah Datuk RM Jasni; Minister of Community Developmen­t and People’s Wellbeing, Datuk James Ratib; Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk Mohammad Yusof Apdal who is also Lahad Datu Member of Parliament; Tungku Assemblyma­n Assaffal P Alian; Sabah Social Welfare Department Director Jais Asri; and General Manager of Petronas Sabah and Labuan Regional Office, Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab.
