KOTA KINABALU: The founder of the Borneo Unity Movement Campaign, Jimmy Lai, paid a courtesy visit to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Youth chief Miro Simuh who is also the State assemblyman for Serumbu.

The purpose of the visit was to gain inspiration to strengthen public understanding of the importance of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and to assist related agencies in formulating relevant policies.

Jimmy said that Sarawak is currently on the right track towards comprehensive and more advanced development compared to other states.

He added that the Borneo Unity Movement Campaign is not only for Sabah but also for Sarawak.

Jimmy expressed gratitude for the understanding and cooperation with Miro to carry out the campaign throughout Sarawak.

He acknowledged that Sabah can learn from Sarawak’s development planning, such as the need for its own airline for the benefit of the state’s residents to obtain reasonably priced flight tickets.

“Sarawak is also planning to provide free higher education to the people of Sarawak by 2025 or 2026. Sabah should emulate this to ensure that our youth receive higher education, thereby strengthening the economy and basic facilities for the future,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Therefore, he opined that if Sabah wants to achieve sustainable development, all the special rights of Sabah in the MA63 must be advocated, including obtaining 40 percent of Sabah’s revenue.

He said that he would collaborate with the DNA 63 group, led by activist Irwan Idris, and visit every district in Sabah to meet with local voters and explain the importance of Sabah’s rights outlined in the MA63.

“I also hope that the rakyat in this state will remain united regardless of differences, as it is crucial to ensure a safer future,” he added.

Jimmy also hoped to receive cooperation from local parties, especially Parti Warisan which has a genuine spirit of struggle to raise awareness of the MA63 among the people.
