KOTA KINABALU: The state government will collaborate with Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) for the sponsorship of students from Sabah to undergo an exclusive Turath scripture study programme for three years at the university.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said this was one of the efforts taken to deepen the knowledge of Turath, the Arabic and Islamic tradition.

“This program named as Sabah Turath Ambassador@USIM is offered to Sabah state students who continue their studies at USIM.

“I see this effort as a very good initiative especially for all of us to benefit from the knowledge.

“It is my hope that the students who succeed through this programme can play a role in the empowerment of Islamic heritage in the state of Sabah after completing their studies,” he said in his speech for officiating the International Sabah Heritage Symposium, Malaysia 2024 at the Magellan Sutera Harbor Resort here on Thursday .

The speech was delivered by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Arifin Arif.

At the same time, Hajiji called on Muslims in Sabah to empower themselves with knowledge, skills and change of attitude which is one of the manifestations of good morals.

“This is to increase and empower knowledge and appreciation of Islam to produce dynamic and innovative human capital.

“I hope that everyone who attends this symposium will gain knowledge that is not only for themselves but to be shared with Muslims in this state,” he said.

Among other things, this symposium aims to dignify the books of the Islamic tradition and reveal their contributions so that they are always relevant to the people until today.

Accordingly, he hoped that this programme would provide benefits and useful knowledge to Muslims in this state.

“At the same time, through this programme we will also be able to discuss the actual framework of reading the Turath book so that the content found in it can be utilised.

“Indeed, studying the book of Turath is important and needs to be used as a guide to deepen knowledge and understand it, thus adapting to the current context of the Islamic world,” he said.

A total of 350 participants from all over Malaysia attended the symposium.
