Labuan PWD triumphs in CITEC 2024 for innovative light damage detector
LABUAN: The Labuan Public Works Department (PWD) clinched victory in the Creativity and Innovative Technology Competition (CITEC) 2024, excelling in the Electric and Electronic category.
This prestigious annual competition, organised by the Department of Labour of the Ministry of Human Resources took place at ADTEC Melaka from March 6-7, attracting 222 participants from public and private institutions, government departments, and the private sector.
Labuan PWD direcor Mohd Faizul Ali Hanapiah said his department secured the coveted Platinum Medal with their ground-breaking innovation, the Light Damage Detector (LDD).
“The LDD, developed by Labuan PWD’s innovation team, not only made it to the finals but also emerged victorious in the competition,” he said to Bernama on Friday.
Describing the LDD as a high-impact innovation, Mohd Faizul explained it significantly streamlines the workflow for streetlight maintenance.
“The innovation not only reduces time and workflow but also offers cost-effective solutions to the government,” he said.
Highlighting the broader implications of their success, Mohd Faizul emphasised the innovation would benefit PWDs nationwide, as well as local authorities and private agencies.
“Labuan PWD remains committed to consistently innovating products that are efficient, cost-effective, and minimise time consumption for the long-term benefit of the government,” he said.
This victory follows the achievement of the Labuan PWD team in the Grassroots Open Challenge (GOC) 2022.
Their first-ever multimeasurement kit (MMK) innovation for civil construction works secured a grant of RM100,000.
The team, consisting of Labuan PWD staff, participated in the GOC 2022 from March 1 to April 30, 2023.
