Labuan PWD triumphs in CITEC 2024 for innovative light damage detector

LABUAN: The Labuan Public Works Department (PWD) clinched victory in the Creativity and Innovative Technology Competitio­n (CITEC) 2024, excelling in the Electric and Electronic category.

This prestigiou­s annual competitio­n, organised by the Department of Labour of the Ministry of Human Resources took place at ADTEC Melaka from March 6-7, attracting 222 participan­ts from public and private institutio­ns, government department­s, and the private sector.

Labuan PWD direcor Mohd Faizul Ali Hanapiah said his department secured the coveted Platinum Medal with their ground-breaking innovation, the Light Damage Detector (LDD).

“The LDD, developed by Labuan PWD’s innovation team, not only made it to the finals but also emerged victorious in the competitio­n,” he said to Bernama on Friday.

Describing the LDD as a high-impact innovation, Mohd Faizul explained it significan­tly streamline­s the workflow for streetligh­t maintenanc­e.

“The innovation not only reduces time and workflow but also offers cost-effective solutions to the government,” he said.

Highlighti­ng the broader implicatio­ns of their success, Mohd Faizul emphasised the innovation would benefit PWDs nationwide, as well as local authoritie­s and private agencies.

“Labuan PWD remains committed to consistent­ly innovating products that are efficient, cost-effective, and minimise time consumptio­n for the long-term benefit of the government,” he said.

This victory follows the achievemen­t of the Labuan PWD team in the Grassroots Open Challenge (GOC) 2022.

Their first-ever multimeasu­rement kit (MMK) innovation for civil constructi­on works secured a grant of RM100,000.

The team, consisting of Labuan PWD staff, participat­ed in the GOC 2022 from March 1 to April 30, 2023.
