MAYC to begin youth age transition plan tour in June

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The youth age transition plan tour by the Malaysian Association of Youth Clubs (MAYC) in 12 states will kick off in June, says MAYC national president Mohd AlHafizi Abu Bakar.

He said the tour, which would be carried out until December this year, aimed to identify youth with the potential to be groomed as youth leaders by 2026.

“We are transitioning the youth age from 40 to 30 by 2026, hence we are organising this tour to seek new talents to train and groom as members and leaders of MAYC at the district, affiliated club, and state levels.

“We want to ensure that the 540 clubs we have involving 102 areas and 12 states can remain functioning in 2026,” he told reporters after the opening ceremony of the 62nd National MAYC Annual General Meeting, officiated by the Prime Minister’s political secretary, Datuk Azman Abidin here yesterday.

Earlier, Azman who was appointed as MAYC’s advisor until 2025 in his speech said the association was on the right track in developing the potential of youths and must continue to work hand in hand with the government to achieve their objectives.

He said since its establishment in 1954, MAYC had continued to be a bold youth organisation in advocating youth issues in the country.

“This is what we want in a bold and diplomatic youth organization in advancing the youth development agenda,” he said.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh previously said the government had set Jan 1, 2026, as the date that the Youth Societies and Youth Development (Amendment) Act 2019 (Act A1602) - which capped the age limit for youth at 30 - would come into force.

Among others, the Act involves setting the new age bracket for youth society office bearers, namely 18 to 30, and shortening the period to hold office as head of youth societies from six to four years.
