Ramadan fast breaking strengthen­s unity

KENINGAU: The beauty of Ramadan with the celebratio­n of breaking the fast, which is also attended by the nonMuslim community in this state, is a paradigm shift towards strengthen­ing unity and fostering racial harmony.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Yakub Khan said that every Ramadan is the best platform towards uniting people from various races and religions in the state.

“The Sabah Umno leadership breaking fast programme together with Umno leadership and members at the division level is our annual traditiona­l event.

“What is interestin­g about this kind of programme is that it is also attended by non-Muslims from various races and religions. This is a reflection of the strong unity among the people in this state” he said when speaking on behalf of Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar Radin at the Umno Zone 4 breaking the fast programme, involving Keningau Umno, Ranau Tenom and Pensiangan Umno at the residence of Keningau Umno chief Nik Mohd Nadzri Nak Zawawi at Taman Fajar here on Saturday.

According to Yakub, who is also Umno Sepanggar division head, the presence of various races and religions in Sabah attending the fast breaking programme is a unique feature of how strong the brotherhoo­d of the people in this state despite their difference­s.

“We need to maintain this culture to create togetherne­ss to build a peaceful and harmonious nation, one of the important elements to generate progress and prosperity for the country,” he said.

At the event, Yakub presented donations from Keningau Umno to several mosques including carpets, solar lights and air conditione­rs.
