KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital holds World Kidney Day 2024
KOTA KINABALU: KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital recently organized the World Kidney Day 2024.
The World Kidney Day is observed on the second Thursday of March every year. This year it falls on March 14.
The theme for the World Kidney Day 2024 is “Kidney Health for all”. It is a day marked by global events, health screenings and educational campaigns which all focused on kidney health.
KPJ Sabah World Kidney Day 2024 was organized with the concept of mini carnival whereby public and healthcare providers were invited to join the event.
It aims at raising awareness about the importance of our kidneys and the vital role they play in our overall health. It is also aimed to appreciate and acknowledge the dialysis patients for their high spirit enduring the life of kidney failure patients.
“KPJ Sabah World Kidney Day 2024 focuses on the increasing burden of chronic kidney disease and achieving optimal kidney care to overcome these challenges at different levels,” said Mohamad Faizal Mohamed, general manager of KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital, at the event.
Among others, the program provided health talks by Dr Bharathan Thevarajah, KPJ Sabah Resident Consultant Nephrologists and Physician with the topic “Hypertension” while Specialist Nurse Noni Jaharun spoke on the topic “Diabetic Foot Care”.
The health talks raise awareness about the importance of kidney health, the risk factors for kidney disease, the importance of prevention from hypertension which could lead to kidney disease as well as prevention from diabetic complication on legs for dialysis patients.
In addition to the health talks, the half-day program also involved other activities such as basic health screening, presentation of goodie bags to KPJ Sabah dialysis patients, lucky draw and slido quiz.
