MAIPs donates RM20,000 to families of Tawau fire victims

KANGAR: The Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) has donated RM20,000 to be distribute­d to families of the recent fire victims in Kampung Tanjung Batu Laut Logpond in Tawau, Sabah.

In a statement yesterday, MAIPs said the donation was presented by the Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullai­l, who is also the MAIPs president, to MAIPs strategic partners namely Persatuan Jalinan Kasih Harapan Rakyat Sabah yesterday to be given out to the fire victims.

“In addition, the ‘Derma Kilat’ funds collected by the participan­ts of the Program Eks PerBah (Eksesais Kerajaan Perlis ke Sabah), amounting to RM4.500, was also donated. The participan­ts were represente­d by Kasyaf Bina Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Zamri Mohamad,” according to the statement.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra did the symbolic handover ceremony at the Tawau Airport before departing to the Peninsula.

On March 6, the media reported that about 45 houses in a water village were destroyed in a fire incident in Kampung Tanjung Batu Laut Logpond at about 2.30 pm.

In the meantime, through the statement, the Raja Muda also expressed his condolence­s to the families of the victims of the fire that occurred in the Projek Transfomas­i DiRaja Kampung Nelayan Warna-Warni Seberang Ramai area in Kuala Perlis on Friday.

Istana Arau, in a separate statement, said the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullai­l visited Kampung Seberang Alor, which is part of the Projek Transforma­si DiRaja Kampung Nelayan Warna-Warni Seberang Ramai, on Saturday.

The statement said Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin expressed his condolence­s to all the families involved and reminded all parties to always be vigilant in cases of fire that can bring danger and damage to life and property.

“His Royal Highness said fire disasters can happen for various reasons. However, it is often caused by electrical equipment failure and also excessive electricia­l connection­s as well as negligence either in the kitchen or in the open area,” said the statement yesterday.

On March 15, the media reported that a five-year-old boy suffered burns on the back of his body, his hand, and both legs as a result of a fire involving two houses in Kampung Seberang Alor.

Perlis Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Fire Superinten­dent Norazwan Hashim is reported to have said that the child, who suffered 30 to 40 per cent burns, is now being treated at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital here.
