GRS govt’s remarkable feat deserves credit
KOTA KINABALU: The commendable achievement of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government for recording the highest ever level of revenue of RM6.3 billion last year, should be acknowledged, said former Petagas assemblyman Datuk James Ligunjang.
He said this remarkable feat deserves credit and recognition, especially considering the challenges faced in improving the management and revenue collection in the state.
According to Ligunjang, having sufficient funds is crucial for a state like Sabah, as it requires significant developments in basic services to improve the quality of life for its citizens. Upgrading infrastructure such as water supply systems, electricity grids and roads is essential to ensure that the people of Sabah have access to reliable and efficient services.
He said the ability of the GRS government to generate such a substantial revenue indicates effective economic policies and strategies. It demonstrates their success in attracting investments, stimulating economic growth and creating opportunities that contribute to the overall development of the state.
“With the availability of funds, it enables the state government to allocate resources towards critical areas such as healthcare, education, tourism and environmental conservation. These sectors play a vital role in fostering sustainable development and enhancing the well-being of the people,” he added in a statement on Tuesday.
Ligunjang said the GRS government’s ability to generate high revenue reflects positively on their management of finances and implementation of transparent and accountable practices. It instills confidence in the citizens and stakeholders that the funds are being utilized for the intended purposes, without any misuse or corruption.
“The GRS government deserves credit not only for achieving a record level of revenue but also for their commitment to utilizing these funds for the betterment of Sabah. Their efforts in addressing the developmental needs of the state, improving infrastructure, and providing essential services deserve recognition,” he said.
