‘Country’s future depends on unity of people
KOTA BELUD: The future of the country depends on the unity of the people despite racial and religious differences, said Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.
According to him, the people share ownership of this country, and it is the collective responsibility of the people to build and provide a better future for the nation.
“We share this country, we share the same states, districts and villages. Therefore, tolerance and the spirit of mutual respect are crucial.
“This country belongs to all of us. Our unity will determine the future of our country,” he said.
Ewon added as the Kadamaian assemblyman, he continues the practice of attending religious and cultural events as it reflects the importance of unity in building the nation’s future.
“We all have a role in developing this country. As a minister and elected representative, I attend iftar events with my Muslim friends in Kampung Tambulion which is my tradition, followed by attending open house events during Hari Raya. I also provide contributions to every mosque and surau in Kadamaian through my state assemblyman allocation.
“Next month, I will meet with church leaders throughout Kadamaian and provide the same contributions to every non-Muslim house of worship in Kadamaian. This is my commitment to ensuring that all people can together develop this country despite differences in religion and race,” he said at the iftar event and contribution presentation to mosques, surau and asnaf groups at the Kadamaian State Assembly constituency two days ago.
During the event, Ewon presented a contribution of RM1,000 to each surau, while the mosque in Kg Tambulion received RM10,000 as the host.
A total of 130 asnaf groups also received contributions of RM150 each from the Yayasan Bank Rakyat, an agency under Ewon’s ministry. The Tambulion Laut Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) also received a contribution of RM5,000 from Ewon.
