KOTA KINABALU: Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad and the state’s Unit Pemimpin Pembangunan Masyarakat’s (UPPM) Iftar Charity Programme in Lahad Datu and Kunak on Monday was made more meaningful with a shopping trip for 100 children.

The joy of being treated to a shopping spree was reflected in the faces of the children who were from underprivileged families in the two districts.

Among those who were treated to the shopping spree at Kunak Servay Supermarket and Lahad Datu Servay Jaya were children with special needs. The programme also donated food baskets to 40 underprivileged families in Kunak and Lahad Datu.

On the same day UPPM Sabah director Datuk Awang Kadin Tang and Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad Executive Director Datuk Dexter Lau broke the fast on the seventh day of Ramadan with residents from Kunak and Lahad Datu.

A total of 500 invited guests attended the iftar which was held in Lahad Datu and during the breaking of fast, 50 individuals received food baskets and financial assistance for Eid preparations.

Dexter, who was met at the buka puasa programme said, “We are only on the fourth day in Lahad Datu, with over 20 areas still to be explored, and we hope the next iftar will proceed smoothly as we have done in several areas before.”

“This time, a total of 50 food baskets and Eid pocket money were distributed to needy families, especially single mothers and the disabled, thanks to the contribution from Sabah Softwood Berhad, which also participated in this programme,” he said.

The Iftar Charity Programme was conducted in Tawau on Friday. Also present at the two programmes were Datuk Redonah Bahanda, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Kunak assemblywoman Datuk Norazlinah Arif, Lahad Datu District Officer Firuz Idzualdeen Mohd Dzul, Deputy Chairman of USIA Datuk Abdul Hakim Ghulam Khan and representatives from various government departments.

The Iftar Charity Programme aims to extend a helping hand to those in need by providing meals to less fortunate families and orphaned children across Sabah for their breaking of fast during Ramadan.

This compassionate initiative embodies KTC and the UPPM’s unwavering commitment to serving the community and uplifting the lives of the underprivileged.

Throughout the Iftar Break Fast Charity Programme, KTC and UPPM will organise iftar gatherings at 25 locations across Sabah, ensuring that families facing economic hardship receive essential support during Ramadan.

Additionally, orphanages will be visited, where children will be treated to a shopping trip for them to choose their ‘baju raya’.

The programme kicked off in Kalabakan last Thursday.
