KTC praised for helping community
KOTA KINABALU: The initiative of a local company, Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad (KTC), in helping the community succeed through charitable and spiritual activities should be emulated by other companies in the state.
Kuamut assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah said the government saw that the companies involved could be assisted for a ‘special tax exemption’ process in appreciation of the contributions they had made.
Masiung, who is also the Housing and Town Development Authority (LPPB) chairman, urged large-scale companies in Sabah to take holistic measures like the noble efforts made by KTC.
According to Masiung, there are many oil palm companies with high performance in this state, but none of them have come forward to help with community activities.
“On behalf of the Sabah government, we give the highest praise to KTCB as an adopted family to the state government,” he told reporters after officiating the Kinabatangan Parliament Ramadan Iftar Tour at the Kinabatangan District Mosque recently.
The Managing Director of KTC, Datuk Dexter Lau was also present to welcome more than 500 Muslims breaking their fast at the Kinabatangan Parliament together with its Community Development Leaders Unit (UPPM) director Datuk Awang Kadin Tang.
KTC is the main sponsor of the 2024 Ramadan Al-Mubarak Iftar ceremony organised together with UPPM Sabah in all 25 parliamentary constituencies across the state.
The Ramadan Iftar Tour in Kinabatangan entered its sixth day yesterday after holding similar events in Kalabakan, Tawau, Semporna and Lahad Datu.
KTC had previously distributed bun cakes and Dumex milk to less fortunate communities in each state constituency here.
The company also held a Raya shopping programme for orphans and Asnaf groups.
