Penampang pupils, students receive shoes aid
KOTA KINABALU: More than 200 pupils and students from 27 schools under the supervision of the Penampang District Education Office (PPD) received school shoes aid in conjunction with a ‘Back to School’ programme.
The aid was presented by Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Beliawanis chief Emmie Datuk Martin Idang in collaboration with the Kituau Active Revolution Youth Club (KREATIF) during a ceremony at PPD Penampang here on Monday.
Emmie said that her party was called on to make the donation to help ease the burden of parents of students from the B40 group due to the increasing cost of school supplies.
“PPD Penampang is the first area we helped, and after this we will try to enter other districts to identify the students who need help with the cooperation of the respective PPDs,” she told reporters after the handover ceremony.
Meanwhile, Penampang District Education Officer Ag Mohd Kadir Ag Kanak expressed his gratitude for the help that has been given.
“We thank you very much for this donation. We hope to be able to help our students who are in dire need and we also hope that this kind of cooperation will continue in the future.
“We are working on a lot of assistance, for example to reduce the burden on students in terms of expenses, buying clothes, fares and so on,” he said.
Also expressing his gratitude was SK Buayan headmaster, Lazim Gudau, who represented his students in receiving the school shoe aid.
“The help given will hopefully be of great benefit to my students, who are schooling in the interior.
“Previously, my students only used rubber shoes, so if they get these good shoes, I hope they will continue to study.
“Actually, our school still needs a lot of help such as Information Technology and Communication (ICT) equipment,” he said.
Also present were KREATIF Club chairperson Tracie Nam, Central Beliawanis Movement excos Belsheera Elison and Lindsay Michael, and Moyog Beliawanis Movement vice chief Cassie Siambun.
