Opposition manipulating drought situation

-

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Inanam chief Datuk Dr Roland Chia is disappointed with opposition leaders who manipulate the current drought situation in Sabah and blame it on the state government for failing to manage the people’s issues.

“We are disappointed with these individuals because the drought is beyond human control and is not something we want to happen. It is a natural disaster which no one wants to happen,” he said

Roland also stressed that the state government has never been idle and is always striving to implement control mechanisms to ensure that the people receive sufficient aid and supplies.

“When the state is hit by a natural disaster, the most important thing is to stop the ‘politics’. We must work together to find solutions to help the people. The Chief Minister and minister responsible have given their commitment that the state’s water reserve can still sustain even during prolonged droughts.”

With the declaration of drought in Papar and the Limbahau water treatment plant not operating due to the lack of water, the government has taken the initiative to supply water from the Kogopon water treatment plant to ensure that 55,000 residents receive the supply.

“Some rationing had to be made to ensure sufficient treated water supply for all areas,” he said and advised the residents to use water sparingly and avoid wastage.

He also reminded the opposition not to use this issue as their political fodder, adding, even if they were to become the government, they are incapable of addressing such problems.

Roland, who is also the Political Secretary to the Chief Minister of Sabah, said this when delivering tanks and pipes to villages around the Inanam area.
