Life Water donates drinking water to drought-stricken areas

-

KOTA KINABALU: Life Water Industries Sdn Bhd has mobilised its disaster action squad to deliver its popular homegrown brands K2 and Sasa bottled drinking to drought-stricken areas in hope of providing safe drinking water and alleviating the hardship and suffering of the affected families and communities.

A total of 1,230 cartons of bottled drinking water were delivered by Life Water’s own trucks, to affected residents of Kampung Tiong Monggis which is about an hour and a half by transport from Tamparuli town making it difficult for the residents to purchase water from town especially for those who do not own transport.

Kampung Tiong Monggis being hilly, is also not accessible by water tanker lorries.

Several trucks were deployed to various schools in Papar which had been declared a drought emergency district. The schools are SMK Majakir, SJK(C) Hwa Yin Rampazan, SK Lingan, SK Gana, SK Kogopon, SK Padawan, SK St Mary, SMK St Mary, SMK Takis and SK Sacred Heart, Kg Biau.

Due to their remoteness, being located in the interior of Papar district, access by transportation is a problem, thus aggravating the situation of the communities in accessing water supply.

Student population at these rural schools range from 75 to 1291 students.

SMK Majankir, Papar was said to have once sent students home due to lack of water at the school and due to rising temperatures.

Many had endured hardship from lack of water supply for drinking and household chores for two weeks and had resorted to purchasing bottled drinking water which most of them can ill-afford.

As a sideline programme, Life Water took the opportunity to share with the students on the importance of drinking pure and clean water and to stay hydrated and healthy all the time.

Like the drinking water donation, this is also a regular Corporate Social Responsibility programme of Life Water involving schools throughout Sabah through its Air Ku Hidup Ku programme.

Life Water also handed Health Ministry’s food safety awarenessrelated posters which are to be mounted on school walls as a guide and reminder for students for their own health and safety.

In Sandakan, Life Water brought Ramadan cheers to the 61 students of Sekolah Mahad Tahfiz Al Quran Wasunnah Al-Yakuub and to the 1,290 students of SK Sungai Manila, both located at Batu 12, by donating its K2 drinking water and 2More carbonated drinks for their daily needs and to celebrate fast breaking.

A total of 95 cartons were distributed to the two schools.

The school had made several trips to get water supply from outside of the affected areas or to purchase bottled drinking water for their 61 students boarding full-time, as in the case of Sekolah Mahad Tahfiz Al Quran Wasunnah Al-Yakuub.
