Panglima Berantai among favourites at RSTC race
KOTA KINABALU: Exciting battles are on the cards at the Royal Sabah Turf Club (RSTC) Tambalang race course in Tuaran tomorrow (March 24).
Four races have been lined up for the day with Race Three arguably the top highlight.
Speed king Panglima Berantai is widely expected to emerge top in the 1,000m race on sand track, which will commence at 3:15pm with 10 starters.
However, the likes of Dedek Beauty and Bombardier are likely to give favourite Panglima Berantai a run for her money.
A total of RM21,000 will be up for grabs in the race for Class B horses with the champion taking home RM11,050.
Race Four, which will be the final event of the day, too is expected to be a cracker with as many as five runners all having some say in the proceedings.
The top picks include Lucky Princess, Apin Apin Prince, Putri Seroja, Nimbus and Putra Rinaking. There will be 12 starters in the race expected to start at 4:20pm, covering a distance of 1,100m on sand track. The total prize money is RM9,000.
For the record, the day will start with Novice races at 1:20pm and 2:20pm, both of which will be a 1,000m battles on sand track.
Over in Singapore, RSTC will be counting on Sabah Ace and Sabah Win to vie for top honours.
The race will take place today (March 23) where Sabah Ace and Sabah Win are slated to run Race Five and Race Six respectively.
Sabah Ace is expected to be on board with experienced jockey Duric in the saddle while Sabah Win’s assignment appears tougher.
Golden Dash, Fast & Fearless and Diamond Ring are picks of the crop in theace.
Meanwhile, global sports attention is firmly fixed on Sunday on the distinct possibility of Helios Express achieving the near impossible feat of swooping the Hong Kong fouryear old series comprising three prestigious races.
The Derby is the third and final leg of the four-year-old series covering a punishing distance of 2,000m.
Helios Express won the first leg over 1,600m in February comfortably but he had to pull out all stops to capture the second leg over 1,800m in March.
Helios Express simply oozes class and looks invincible going into Sunday’s race. The onus is on ChangchengGlory and Helene Feeling to prove otherwise.
