Recycling hub launched at Sandakan township
SANDAKAN: IJM Land launched and unveiled a recycling hub in Bandar Utama township here.
The outreach event was graced by Sandakan Municipal Council president Henry Idol.
“By creating such a facility, we hope to make it easy and convenient for residents and the community to segregate and deposit their recyclable items. Henry Idol was joined by residents who participated in the green recycle drive to mark the hub’s launch and, at the same time, to galvanize the community to adopt a greener lifestyle,” said IJM Region Head Steven Goh.
Following the high receptivity from the residents, the recycling day event was a success with some 832.5kg of recyclables collected. The event also featured a kids’ colouring contest on recycling-related topics and a trash-to-cash program.
“Our aim is to nurture better recycling habits among residents, which includes rewarding them in the form of cashback. This is our way of showing our support for their commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Goh.
Overall, the event not only raised awareness of the importance of recycling within the community but also fostered a sense of community engagement.
Through initiatives such as this, IJM Land continues to lead the way in driving positive change and promoting sustainable living as a part of the daily lives of the residents’ lifestyle.
“In our continuing efforts to incorporate all our developments with sustainable design, it is now mandatory for every IJM Land’s residential project to be green-certified. At the core of our commitment to sustainability is achieving netzero carbon emissions by 2050. This commitment drives us to concrete actions, underpinned by a strong sense of purpose and drive to enrich the lives of current and future IJM Land property residents,” Goh added.
Energy efficiency features are considered across their projects, he said.
“We incorporate passive design and green features, as well as conserve the environment in our development projects where possible. From building orientation to placement of windows, natural ventilation, our goal is to deliver our residents a lifestyle of thermal comfort, low energy bills and low greenhouse gas emissions,” he disclosed.
Furthermore, IJM Land has invested in critical infrastructure such as a main distribution substation and a five-million-liter water reservoir for the community to ensure a stable supply of electricity and water to cater for 3000 units of households.
Disaster prevention measures such as monsoon drains and detention ponds have also been incorporated into the planning process to address the challenges posed by climate change.
IJM Land has planted 3,295 trees in the Bandar Utama township. This lush planting allows natural shading, creating a serene environment. In addition, mature trees are conserved or transplanted whenever possible.
To ensure the sustainability of the neighbourhood’s green spaces, IJM Land has made significant commitments to maintain the landscape and grounds in the township, ensuring the continued flourishing of its natural beauty, Goh said.
