KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) and Penampang Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) have reached a consensus on business cooperation and collaboration.

The agreement was made when SCCC led by its president Datuk Frankie Liew held a discussion with PCCCI on Sunday.

Both sides will complement each other’s advantages, assist each other for mutual benefit, and jointly promote local and Chinese trade and investment, bringing more benefits to Sabah business enterprises.

Liew stated that SCCC is very willing to share resources and mechanisms with PCCCI, welcoming all partners with strength and sincere cooperation to ally with them and participate in various activities. This is to enable businesses in various fields in Sabah to grow and develop respectively. This will enable the world to see Sabah, and to create opportunities and business prospects unique to Sabah.

“In the future, SCCC will have more networking activities and developments, and will frequently organize visit to China and ASEAN countries for exchange and business exploration.

“We hope PCCCI can join us in these explorations and exchanges,” he said.

Liew also promised that since both sides have reached a cooperation consensus, in the future, when promoting any association affairs and activities, priority will be given to PCCCI to participate, ensuring mutual benefit.

PCCCI president Victor Kou praised SCCC for its contributions to promoting trade and investment between Sabah and China, which have been widely recognized. He also believes that under the cooperation of both chambers of commerce, it will bring more opportunities and benefits to local businesses, especially those in Penampang.

“When exploring and developing activities in China, SCCC is undoubtedly outstanding, but here in Penampang, PCCCI certainly has greater advantages and foundations. I hope that both sides will move forward hand in hand in the future,” said Kou.

During the meeting, Liew also said that the establishment of SCCC is to cooperate with the state government’s policy guidelines and intentions, gathering outstanding enterprises from various fields in the state to better represent and convey bilateral cooperation and interests between Sabah and China. This is to promote trade and investment, information resource interaction, assistance and communication.

The main objective of SCCC is to promote economic and trade exchanges and cooperation between Sabah and China, as well as ASEAN countries, and other industrial and commercial fields. It also provides information to members regarding Sabah, China, and bilateral economic and trade activities, offering a platform for industrial and commercial enterprise information, financial and trade information exchange, including organizing exhibitions, forums, training, exploration activities, or providing investment guidance and other services, to establish and develop business cooperation.

Currently, SCCC has about 200 permanent members, including Youth Entrepreneur Committeeand Women Entrepreneurs Committee members, totalling nearly 280. They are all practical and industrious entrepreneurs from various sectors in Sabah, including real estate, plantation, agriculture, tourism, hotel industry, timber industry, construction materials, creative design, media industry, education industry, and cultural industry.

“After the epidemic, we have also accelerated our pace. In addition to actively participating in various domestic and international business matchmaking, exhibitions and conferences, we have also cooperated with domestic and foreign chambers of commerce to host large-scale international events, including last year’s ‘Sabah Chinese Business Conference’ and ‘High-Quality Belt and Road Forum.’ We have received positive responses from domestic and foreign business entrepreneurs and also gained recognition and appreciation from the Chinese and Sabah governments.

“We have established liaison offices in Shengzhou and Guangzhou, China. We also established a branch in Hubei, China. On May 18 last year, we held the China Hubei-Malaysia Business Matching Conference in Kuala Lumpur, which was the largest business matching conference organised by Hubei in Malaysia since 2019. Nearly 30 Malaysian chambers of commerce and more than 100 companies participated,” he said.
