Expecting increase in updates, DOSM ensures PADU system runs smoothly

TAIPING: The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) always ensures that the Central Data Base Hub (PADU) system is running smoothly following the expected increase in updates leading up to the deadline on March 31.

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said more than 7.7 million Malaysians or 35.1 per cent of the country’s population have updated their information in the PADU system since it was launched on Jan 2, with nearly 400,000 updates made within a day Sunday.

“We expect that in the last seven days, there will be a bigger crowd at PADU counters. With increasing publicity, understanding, and awareness, we expect the update rate to reach up to 40 per cent in a day or two,” he told reporters after visiting the PADU counter at the Taiping DOSM Operations Office Monday.

Mohd Uzir said in Perak alone, almost 735,000 registrations have been recorded so far, which is just 38 per cent, but DOSM believes that the number will reach over a million within the next few days as the counters across the state are experiencing increasing visits.

“We opened more than 100 counters in public places in Perak. We also have counters in mosques to allow people who come for tarawih prayers to take the opportunity to register in PADU, with approximately 50 people updating their information in a day,” he said.

Mohd Uzir also called on members of the public who have not registered with PADU to do so promptly, and not wait until the last minute, to avoid congestion at counters and registration sites.

At a separate event in SEREMBAN, Mohd Uzir said that with seven days left, he expects PADU registration in all states to exceed 50 per cent.

The registration rates had so far reached 40 per cent in Perlis and 37 per cent in Negeri Sembilan, he said when met at the Ampangan Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).

He said PADU would bring many benefits to the economic and socio-economic development of all citizens.

PADU, launched on January 2nd last year, was open to the public for information updates until March 31, with phase two expected to begin from April to June 2024. This phase will involve algorithm development based on data needs within PADU.

Those who have not registered and updated their data are urged to do so before the deadline, either through the website https://www.padu.gov.my or at nearby PADU counters. — Bernama
