-

KOTA KINABALU: In the heart of Kolopis, a small community nestled amidst the lush landscapes, an inspiring initiative is underway to bridge the digital divide and empower its residents with valuable Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) skills.

Supported by a grant from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, AMC University College is offering comprehensive computer training to the locals, right at their doorstep.

The training programme covers a wide range of subjects, from navigating graphics programs to mastering word processing software.

Designed to cater to the diverse needs of the community, the curriculum aims to equip participants with essential digital literacy skills crucial in today’s digital age.

Upon completion of the intensive six-day course, each participant will receive a government-recognized certificate of participation, validating their newfound skills and boosting their employability prospects.

The venue for this transformative initiative is Noungan Farm, thanks to the generous support of its owner, Mara Kinson.

Her commitment to community development has been instrumental in rallying enthusiastic participation from the local residents.

Maria, reflecting on the overwhelming response to the training, remarked that delivering the training locally has been a real bonus.

“I was really surprised by the level of interest shown ranging from young adults to a number of seniors. We have been able to fill two six-day classes in less than a week,” she said.

This small yet impactful initiative underscores the latent demand and eagerness within the Kolopis community to seize self-improvement opportunities when they are made accessible.

Beyond acquiring technical skills, the program instills a sense of empowerment and opens doors to endless possibilities for personal and professional growth.

The first course, involving 15 participants, is from April 15 to April 20, while the second course is from April 22 to April 27.

As the training programme gains momentum, it serves as a beacon of hope, illustrating the transformative power of education when brought directly to the grassroots level.

Through collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication, the Kolopis community is charting a path towards a brighter and more inclusive future.
