Two titles in two weeks for China’s Zhang and Dong

KUCHING: Top seeded Zhang Sijia and Dong Jiali of China capped another good week of tennis when they won the girls doubles title in the second week of competitio­n at the ITF Asia Developmen­t Championsh­ips Finals yesterday.

In the final match against the second seeds Hong Yeri and Sim Siyeon from South Korea, the China pair took the first set 6-3 but lost 3-6 in the second.

The duo, who were winners of the first week of competitio­n, fought hard to beat Hong-Sim 10-7 in the super tie-break to complete a double win.

In the boys doubles, top seeds Jang Junseo-Kim Dongjae of South Korea fell 3-6, 6-3 (4-10) to Takahiro Yamaguchi-Shintaro Ogaki of Japan.

The Japanese pair will face the second seeded Indian pair of Hruthik Katakam and Tavish Pahwa who disposed of sixth seeds Dharma Panatarato­rn-Tri Srisen of Thailand 6-1, 6-3 in the other semifinal.

Meanwhile, top seed Takahiro advanced to the semifinals of the boys singles after he tamed Tri Srisen 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfin­als. Joining him in the last eight are

Tien Anh Le of Vietnam, Hruthik of India and Kim Dongjae of South Korea.

Semifinali­sts of the girls singles competitio­n are top seed Hong Yeri, Nualsri Paweenon of Thailand, Sim Siyeon of South Korea and Zhang Sijia of China.
