Two titles in two weeks for China’s Zhang and Dong
KUCHING: Top seeded Zhang Sijia and Dong Jiali of China capped another good week of tennis when they won the girls doubles title in the second week of competition at the ITF Asia Development Championships Finals yesterday.
In the final match against the second seeds Hong Yeri and Sim Siyeon from South Korea, the China pair took the first set 6-3 but lost 3-6 in the second.
The duo, who were winners of the first week of competition, fought hard to beat Hong-Sim 10-7 in the super tie-break to complete a double win.
In the boys doubles, top seeds Jang Junseo-Kim Dongjae of South Korea fell 3-6, 6-3 (4-10) to Takahiro Yamaguchi-Shintaro Ogaki of Japan.
The Japanese pair will face the second seeded Indian pair of Hruthik Katakam and Tavish Pahwa who disposed of sixth seeds Dharma Panataratorn-Tri Srisen of Thailand 6-1, 6-3 in the other semifinal.
Meanwhile, top seed Takahiro advanced to the semifinals of the boys singles after he tamed Tri Srisen 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Joining him in the last eight are
Tien Anh Le of Vietnam, Hruthik of India and Kim Dongjae of South Korea.
Semifinalists of the girls singles competition are top seed Hong Yeri, Nualsri Paweenon of Thailand, Sim Siyeon of South Korea and Zhang Sijia of China.
