Ewon welcomes cooperatio­n to further strengthen SMEs and cooperativ­es

KOTA KINABALU: Entreprene­ur Developmen­t and Cooperativ­es Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick welcomes the cooperatio­n between his ministry and the state government in efforts to further strengthen the small and medium enterprise­s (SMEs) and cooperativ­es sector in Sabah.

He said the cooperatio­n aligns with his desire to provide additional focus to Sabah and Sarawak to develop the SME sector without compromisi­ng the existing focus of his ministry.

“To achieve this goal, I have proposed to the state government to establish a Sabah Entreprene­urship Developmen­t Coordinati­on Committee to coordinate all entreprene­urship developmen­t programs implemente­d by various ministries in Sabah.

“The establishm­ent of this committee, which involves all federal and state agencies involved in entreprene­urship developmen­t in Sabah, has been approved by the state government and will be chaired by myself and Sabah Minister of Industrial Developmen­t and Entreprene­urship Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe.

“I hope that the establishm­ent of this entreprene­urship developmen­t coordinati­on committee will achieve its objectives,” he said in a media statement here on Thursday.

He made these remarks in response to the Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin’s speech during the opening ceremony of the Sabah State Legislativ­e Assembly for 2024 which was held on Thursday.

In his speech, Juhar said that cooperatio­n with the Ministry of Entreprene­ur Developmen­t and Cooperativ­es would be strengthen­ed in implementi­ng high-impact programs that are suitable for the needs of entreprene­urs in the state.

Ewon expressed his gratitude to the state government for its willingnes­s to cooperate in further empowering entreprene­urs in Sabah.
