Ewon welcomes cooperation to further strengthen SMEs and cooperatives
KOTA KINABALU: Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick welcomes the cooperation between his ministry and the state government in efforts to further strengthen the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and cooperatives sector in Sabah.
He said the cooperation aligns with his desire to provide additional focus to Sabah and Sarawak to develop the SME sector without compromising the existing focus of his ministry.
“To achieve this goal, I have proposed to the state government to establish a Sabah Entrepreneurship Development Coordination Committee to coordinate all entrepreneurship development programs implemented by various ministries in Sabah.
“The establishment of this committee, which involves all federal and state agencies involved in entrepreneurship development in Sabah, has been approved by the state government and will be chaired by myself and Sabah Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe.
“I hope that the establishment of this entrepreneurship development coordination committee will achieve its objectives,” he said in a media statement here on Thursday.
He made these remarks in response to the Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin’s speech during the opening ceremony of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly for 2024 which was held on Thursday.
In his speech, Juhar said that cooperation with the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives would be strengthened in implementing high-impact programs that are suitable for the needs of entrepreneurs in the state.
Ewon expressed his gratitude to the state government for its willingness to cooperate in further empowering entrepreneurs in Sabah.
