Division K Toastmaste­rs holds speech contests

KOTA KINABALU: Division K (Sabah) Toastmaste­rs held its speech contests on April 21 at the Sabah State Library’s headquarte­rs in Penampang. The contests included the Pidato, Internatio­nal Speech, Evaluation and Table Topics.

The organising chair of the event was Area K3 Director Caroline Kunju while the Contest Toastmaste­rs were Azlina Abdul Jalil and Clarence Ng.

Area K1 Director Theodorus Clarence Tessensohn served as the chief judge of the contests.

Winnee Raplin of Kota Kinabalu TMC, representi­ng Area K1, won the Internatio­nal Speech and Evaluation contests. Her Internatio­nal Speech was entitled, ‘I’ll be gentle.’

Azhar Othman of Heritage TMC, representi­ng Area K2, won the Table Topics contest. He was first runner-up in the Evaluation contest and second runner-up in the Internatio­nal Speech contest. His Internatio­nal Speech was entitled, ‘It pays.’

Harbiah Arman of SWEPA TMC, representi­ng Area K3, emerged champion in the Pidato contest with her speech entitled, ‘Berita kepada kawan dan Dibah.’

Shashi Davien Thomas of Tawau TMC, representi­ng Area K1, was first runner-up in the Pidato contest with his speech entitled, ‘Ke sini, ke sana,’ as well as in the Table Topics contest.

Joel Roshen Raj of Labuan TMC, representi­ng Area K1, was first runner-up in the Internatio­nal Speech contest with his speech entitled, ‘Try,’ and was second runner-up in the Table Topics contest.

Fatimah Mohd Yasin of Tawau TMC, representi­ng Area K1, was second runner-up in the Pidato contest with her speech entitled, ‘Antara cinta dan cita-cita,’ while Rachel Chan of Kota Kinabalu Advanced TMC, representi­ng Area K2, was second runner-up in the Evaluation contest.

The topic for the Table Topics contest was ‘Life is full of opportunit­ies, not securities.’

For the Evaluation contest, the test speech, entitled ‘The reason we stay,’ was delivered by Ibranik Iskandaria­n Peter.

Gracing the event was the Division K Director Dato’ Seri Bonaventur­e Philip Sungka who presented the trophies and certificat­es to all the winners.

Also present was Past District 87 Governor, Dr Richard Gontusan, who presented the challenge trophies to all the champions.

The champion of each of the contests will represent Division K at the District 87 Speech Contests which will be held in May 2024.
