SK Merpati Sandakan receives donation from SOS

KOTA KINABALU: To introduce and promote the game of tennis among special needs students, Special Olympics Sandakan (SOS) has donated 30 junior tennis rackets, three boxes of tennis balls and three sets of mini-tennis nets to SK Merpati Sandakan.

SK Merpati is among the schools involved in the Special Integratio­n Education Programme (PPKI) where students with special needs are given the opportunit­y to study under the integratio­n education programme.

“The Special Olympics Sandakan chapter is very happy to note that SK Merpati was among the five schools that sent their special students to participat­e in the Bocce competitio­n held at SMK Muhibbah recently.

“It shows their keen interest to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among their students.

“Therefore, we decided to give their students an option to choose an additional game that they might want to play and we decided to introduce tennis to them,” said Taren Sunil Manoharan, chairman of Special Olympics Sandakan Chapter who is also the president of Kelab Tenis Remaja Sandakan.

On hand to receive the tennis items were teachers Izrah Jumdail and Jikol Sipajon. Representi­ng SOS chairman Taren Sunil to hand over the items was Luth Rulia Ali Bin Japar.

“SOS will further collaborat­e with SK Merpati and Kelab Tenis Remaja Sandakan to engage a coach to conduct basic tennis lessons for the students,” said Taren Sunil.
