DAP has to make political stand on GHB, says Penang Gerakan

-

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan urged the DAP to make an unequivocal stand on whether the party would support the newlyformed entity, Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB), led by a PAS splinter group.

Its secretary Oh Tong Keong said the DAP should let the people know its political stand on its support of the new party.

He said the political stand of DAP is very important before the pact of Pakatan Rakyat 2.0 is officially formed as people did not want to see a repetition of severing ties again.

“Until today, no leaders in DAP have made any noise on whether to ban any party which applies to join Pakatan Rakyat 2.0 from pursuing Hudud law after it is accepted as the coalition partner.

“We have reason to believe that DAP will ultimately acquiesce the Hudud law raised by the new partner and again betray the mandate given by the people,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Oh said as the new party formed by a PAS splinter group, it would still make Islam as the axis of their political ideology and political struggle and they would not do away with the implementation of Hudud law.

“Is DAP prepared to strengthen and broaden the political base of this newly formed party like what it had done for PAS? Help them to garner enough Chinese support, but eventually let them pursue their political course to form Islamic state based on al- Quran,” he added.

Former PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu last week announced the formation of GHB which comprises many PAS senior leaders who failed in the party elections last month.

GHB, which has applied for registration as a political party, is widely seen as a replacement for PAS in the opposition Pakatan Rakyat pact now that DAP and PAS have parted ways.
