Teachers advised to join STU

KAPIT: Teachers serving in Kapit, Song and Belaga should register as members of Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) if they have not done so.

The call was made by STU Kapit branch chairman Teoh Say Beng.

“Don’t hesitate, STU is here for you. This union is for the teaching profession. Once you’re our member, there’re so many benefits STU can provide for you such as insurance.

“Support STU because the union champions and fights for the welfare of all teachers. Thus, new teachers shouldn’t hesitate to join. We provide courses and workshops for our members,” Teoh said when contacted.

He further said STU, the largest trade union in the country, will be celebratin­g its 50th anniversar­y this year.

“There’ll be a grand celebratio­n at Imperial Hotel, Kuching later this year.

“In the morning, there will be a conference on ‘ Real World Classroom’ organised by Sunway College and presented by renowned speakers from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur,’” he said.

He advised those wishing to participat­e in the conference to contact him at SMK Kapit.

Meanwhile, in collaborat­ion with Toastmaste­rs Club Sibu, STU Kapit will organise a talk on Aug 15 at SMK Kapit.

Toastmaste­rs Sibu is sending six students and members to the talk. Those interested can contact the secretary, Ho Jia Yiing, at SMK Kapit.
