Wong: Borneo Cultural Festival a true showcase of 1Malaysia spirit
SIBU: Borneo Cultural Festival ( BCF) is a great platform for the people to gather and showcase their varied and colourful cultures and traditions.
Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said BCF was a true showcase of the 1Malaysia spirit, where several communities with markedly different backgrounds worked together in the spirit of unity and harmony.
“BCF showcases the varied and colourful cultures and traditions of the Chinese, Ibans, Orang Ulus, Bidayuhs, Malays, and the Melanaus.
“I know the people of Sibu are very close to one another, and I like to see greater solidarity, greater unity, and greater cohesiveness among us so that we will create a stronger community spirit,” he said at the grand finale of BCF 2015 at Sibu Town Square recently.
Wong, who is also Minister of Local Government and Community Development, said SMC had designated 2017 as Visit Sibu Year (VSY).
Hence, there were about 18 months left to prepare in terms of tourism infrastructure, manpower, and air connectivity from abroad.
Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development, Dr Penguang Manggil, SMC chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King, SMC deputy chairman Dato Andrew Wong, Sibu Resident Sim Kok Kee and SMC secretary Hii Chang Kee were among those present.
