DEBAK: The people must always respect one another regardless of race, background and religion in order to safeguard racial unity, said Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

He also urged the people to cast aside their self interests so that they could progress.

“We can be individualistic, but when we work, we need energy, contributions and ideas as a community.

“A cooperative and helpful culture is very important to work successfully. Therefore, we must avoid squabbles that will create losses to ourselves, organisations and country,” he said at a ‘Majlis Ringgo Rayo’ organised by PBB and the village security and development committee (JKKK) of Kampung Debak here yesterday.

MP, said even though ties in the workplace would not be as strong as family ties, it was no less important to ensure harmony in any organisation.

“We are a country with people of many races, so we need to practise unity and cooperation with one another so that we will bring about benefits to ourselves as well as the country.”

On a separate note, Uggah hoped the people of Debak would continue to be with the BN government so that more developments could be implemented for the benefit of the people.

“At the ministry level, we will continue to focus on efforts to increase the income source of smallholders in palm oil, rubber, pepper and cocoa.

“We hope those with vacant lands will put them to good use to reap better profits. In addition, we will also consider rearing livestock.”

At the event, he presented a cheque to the Mosque Management Committee and approved 500 plastic chairs for the hall.

Also present were Saribas assemblyman Muhamad Razi and community leaders.
