MIRI: More than 40 students from four schools participated in the Environmental Awareness Educational Camp ( Kekas) 2015 held at Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort, Lambir last weekend.

The three- day camp was jointly organised by the Department of Environment ( DoE) and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, Sarawak Operations.

The participating

schools were SMK Merbau, SMK Lopeng Tengah, SMK Bekenu and SMK Lutong.

The objective of the camp was to expose participants to the significance of the environment and to instil a sense of belonging in order to continue to conserve and preserve its beauty.

It also aimed to develop awareness among students and disseminate environmentalist values in young individuals.

During the programme, each participant was given the opportunity to get involved in several recreational activities as well as Kekas objectives related modules.

Kekas is one of the corporate social responsibility ( CSR) programmes for Petronas Carigali and the DoE involving the conservation and preservation of the state’s environment since 2012.

The smart partnership between the government, private sector and higher learning institution is implemented through a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) initiated by the DoE.

As part of the effort to empower the camp, Petronas Carigali also sponsored RM40,000 for the programme.
