SAINS displays non-commercial public content on iK

-

KUCHING: Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS) is currently accepting non- commercial public interest content to show on Infocast Kenyalang (iK).

At a public talk entitled ‘ iCARE about Sarawak’ held at Islamic Information Centre (IIC) yesterday, participants learned about how iK can benefit their organisations.

iK is a network of TV screens located at key points around urban and rural Sarawak providing targeted and relevant information to the public.

Information shown include updates on government projects, public programmes and services, public events, public service announcements, culture and heritage, and on Sarawak.

SAINS head of Digital Signage, Audio-visual and Energy (DSAVE) Unit Allen Liew shared details of how it works.

Launched in October last year as a corporate social responsibility ( CSR) programme, iK has grown in both width and depth in terms of coverage and richness in content.

“Is there space for iK to emerge among other communication platforms out there? Yes, we too have a role to play,” said Liew, who went on to show the wide distribution of their screens across the state, even in remote places and rural town centres like Asajaya, Kapit or Lawas.

“Our screens can be found in state departments, private agencies, local authorities, hospitals, bus terminals, the Chief Minister’s Department, District and Resident Offices.”

Liew said that whatever content (videos, slideshows and posters) that could be published traditionally ( TV, radio, newspaper) can be used on iK.

Currently it supports both the public service and NGOs by putting up appeals for blood donations, announcing activities for Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ( SSPCA), raise awareness for the Dyslexia Association of Sarawak and Malaysia Diabetic Association.

iK uses state- of- the- art outof-home ( OOH) multimedia advertising technology which operates over IP networks. Present at the talk was SAINS chief operating officer Teo Loon Tong.

There was also a briefing on ‘iK Today’ by iK System Administrator Chin Sin Kian and ‘ I Care About Sarawak 2015’ (iCAS’15) by iK Content Administrator Wee Siew Ling.
