Zig Zag’s ‘Tetap Bisamah’ emerges champ at concert
KUCHING: A song titled Tetap Bisamah by the band Zig Zag was adjudged as the champion of the WAIfm Bidayuh’s Music Chart 2014 at a concert held recently at Batu Kawah New Township.
They took RM1,000 cash prize, trophy and certificate. They also bagged another RM400 for being the most voted song through SMS and Facebook.
At second place was Raynorld Sigay with his song, Che Lam Seh Seh who also won the best performance prize.
Third placing went to Give’s Project with their song Lagu Nuju Amu.
Handing over the prizes was Pemanca Liu Thian Leong who also generously supported this programme held in conjunction with Padawan Fest that attracted a crowd of about 1,000 people.
Other distinguished guests who were also present at the event were Padawan Municipal Council secretary Andrew Joris, RTM Sarawak principal deputy director for radio section Faridah Sulong, WAIfm manager Locksley Nyarru Muyang, WAIfm Bidayuh head of service Mike Raung and MPP councillors.
Eleven artistes comprising bands and solo artistes performing at the concert were selected based on songs which won the monthly WAIfm Bidayuh’s Music Chart last year.
Liu said the objectives of this programme were partly to showcase Bidayuh composers and their songs, promote the production of more new Bidayuh songs, and propagate healthy activities among youths.
He also spoke on the importance of promoting cultures of different races, in this case, songs of different ethnic languages, so as to achieve unity in diversity in a multiracial country like Malaysia.
“This would enhance the elements of pride, tolerance, mutual understanding and mutual respect among all peoples. Such elements are the cornerstones of peace, harmony and unity.
“It is also important that cultural heritage, languages and beautiful music of our ancestors, particularly of this Bumi Kenyalang be preserved and nurtured so that it will continue to flourish from generation to generation,” he said.
He also said music has great power as well as huge commercial value.
He said it was estimated that the total world market value of recorded music was worth about US$ 15 billion.
“This is good news for musicians and I hope they will fi nd not only fun in music but also great fortune too,” he said.
