Khairy said the estimated cost also took into consideration safety aspects where certain existing facilities were required to be replaced to meet specifications set by the Fire and Rescue department.

“When the facilities were built in 1998, the building guidelines were not as strict as it is today. The Fire and Rescue Department has pointed out areas which needed to be reconstructed according to specifications,” he said.

Khairy said the National Sports Council ( NSC) has identified a number of training venues and temporary placement for athletes so as not to disrupt their preparation for the SEA Games. According to Khairy eight companies have been shortlisted and the Public Private Partnership Unit was current ly preparing a working paper for tender approval. — Bernama
