Venerated actress Li Lihua to be honoured
TAIPEI: Taiwan’s Golden Horse Film Festival will honour the 92year- old actress Li Lihua with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
The 1969 movie ' Storm over the Yang-Tse River' in which Li starred will be shown at this year’s Golden Horse Film Festival.
Nicknamed “The Evergreen Tree” of the Chinese cinema, Li Lihua began her movie career in 1940 and appeared in over 120 movies before retiring in 1973.
She played a leading role in the 1962 epic film ' The Magnificent Concubine-Yang Kwei Fei', which is the first Chinese film to win an award at the Cannes Film Festival.
This year’s Golden Horse Film Festival will begin on Nov. 5, with the awards ceremony scheduled for Nov. 21 in Taipei. Separately, actor Song Seunghun will be paired with actress Lee Young-ae who will return to acting after a more than 10 years of hiatus.
Production company Group Eight said in a press release that Song and Lee will get together for the drama which is set to air on terrestrial broadcaster SBS in the first half of 2016.
The drama tells the biography of Shin Saimdang (1504-1551), who was a renowned artist, writer and calligrapher during the Chosun Dynasty
Lee plays both Shin Saimdang and a present- day art historian, while Song plays a free spirit raised in a strict family, and his life changes after an encounter with Shin.
