Science and Maths Quiz held on open day

KUCHING: UCSI University Sarawak Campus held its first ever Science and Maths Quiz in conjunctio­n with its open day last weekend.

This event ran concurrent­ly with the UCSI University Kuala Lumpur Campus.

The quiz was open to secondary school students in Kuching region and participat­ed by an overwhelmi­ng 102 students from 18 schools.

The quiz was conducted in three rounds with a preliminar­y round to qualify for the semi-finals. Four outstandin­g teams, SM Lodge, SMK Jalan Arang, SMK Kuching High, SMK St Joseph entered the finals.

After three rounds, the team from SM Lodge emerged champion.

Ignatius Ong Sing Yee, Jasmine Chiam Wan Ern and Justin Toh Kai Chern from SM Lodge received a RM30,000 bursary with RM1,000 cash, followed by the first runner-up team from SMK St Joseph of Jacxl Chan Ken Yik, John Dan Adrian Christophe­r and Muhammad Adam Abdul Hadi ( RM15,000 bursary and RM500 cash) and second runner-up team from SMK Jalan Arang of Chong Yian Sing, Eric Tan Shi Zhang and Kabir Edward Dhaliwal ( RM9,000 bursary with RM300 cash).

Apart from that, a mini workshop on ‘ Multiple Intelligen­ces’ was conducted for visiting school teachers at the university conducted by its in-house trainer Agnes Mary Toner.

UCSI University Sarawak Campus houses the Faculty of Hospitalit­y Management (FHTM) and the Centre for Pre-U Studies (CPU).

The Faculty of Hospitalit­y Management ( FHTM) offers three degree programmes: BA (Hons) in Commerce, BA (Hons) in Event and Tourism Management and BA ( Hons) in Hospitalit­y Management.

FHTM also offers three diploma programmes: Diploma in Hotel Management, Diploma in Culinary Arts and Diploma in Leisure Management.

Students interested to further studies in Medicine and Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Architectu­re, Engineerin­g, Social Sciences and Applied Science programmes are given the option to do Foundation Studies in Arts or Science by the Centre for Pre-U Studies (CPU) of the Sarawak Campus.

The university is giving out over RM18 million worth of scholarshi­ps and bursaries to reward students who excel in examinatio­ns.

The scholarshi­ps are annually provided by the university for students to fulfill their dreams, realise their potential and go beyond their expectatio­ns at the university.

Scholarshi­ps offered by the university include Tan Sri Ahmad Razali Merit Scholarshi­p Award, UCSI University Trust Scholarshi­p, UCSI University Trust Pre- U Scholarshi­p and UCSI University Trust Sports Bursary.

Registrati­on for the September 2015 intake is in progress and students are reminded to bring along their academic transcript­s or results slip for enrolment.
