Man dead for days found in bungalow at Pisang Road West

-

KUCHING: The decomposing body of a man, who was last seen two days earlier, was discovered in his bedroom at Pisang Road West yesterday.

The deceased, identified as 38-year-old Mohamed Rafik, was found by his friend who went to invite him out for lunch around 2pm.

The friend, who declined to be identified, sensed something amiss after repeated knocks on the front door of Rafik’s bungalow went unanswered.

“I then let myself in as the door was unlocked and headed upstairs where I found the decomposing body in the bedroom,” said the friend, who last met up with Rafik two days ago.

He added that the deceased suffered from a combination of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes which, in his opinion, may have led to his sudden demise.

He also said Rafik was the youngest of five siblings who lived alone in the family house, as he was a loner.

Due to the narrow stairwell and Rafik’s heavy-set frame, his body had to be lowered from the balcony to be sent to Sarawak General Hospital for a post mortem.

In a separate case, a man was found dead along the five-foot-way of a shop lot at Batu Kawah New Township yesterday after he was thought to have fainted.

The deceased was identified as John Liew, 53, who hailed from Kenyalang Park but resided with relatives at Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong.

The incident occurred around 2pm when a member of the public, who rents a unit on the upper floor at the shop lot, saw Liew lying on the pavement with a sling bag and plastic bag filled with aluminium cans.

Thinking the victim had fainted, he called for an ambulance and waited for medical personnel to arrive.

Medical personnel then discovered that Liew had passed away and subsequently notified police, who contacted his relatives via his mobile phone inside his sling bag to inform them of his sudden demise.

A relative later said the deceased would walk from their house at Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong to the Batu Kawah New Township on an almost daily basis to spend the day collecting aluminium cans and other recyclables for sale.
