SIBU: Chairwoman of the United People’s Party (UPP) Pelawan branch, Kapitan Datuk Janet Lau is on the move again, meeting local residents and listening to them on the need for infrastructure development and upgrading in the state constituency.

The local community leader led her team — comprising members of UPP Service Committee from Queensway, Rejang Park and Sungei Merah units, as well as UPP Youth Pelawan —for an inspection on Ling Kai Cheng roundabout yesterday to see the progress of the upgrading works there.

Janet, whose late husband was former deputy transport minister Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew, said the roundabout and the roads surrounding it needed urgent upgrading because it was among the places here that had the heaviest traffic flows during rush hour.

“The residents have brought the matter up to me, and I have forwarded their appeal to Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).”

She was thankful that the relevant authorities for promptly responding to the request. This, she pointed out, reflected the people-oriented leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

Janet has been conducting walkabouts across Pelawan over the past several months, responding to the requests from local resident by submitting them to the relevant authorities for assessment and action.

Apart from Ling Kai Cheng Road roundabout, Janet and her team also went to Lane 14 of Merdeka Road, where she received another call on the need to upgrade the infrastructure there.

“I shall move on with my team for the people and with the people. Since the formation of UPP, we have worked in line with Barisan Nasional’s vision and mission,” she stressed.
