‘Patronise libraries to gain more knowledge’

SIBU: The people, be they students or senior citizens, are urged to patronise resource centres such as a library to search for more knowledge and inculcate the reading habit.

Giving this message was Minister of Local Government and Community Developmen­t Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh at the official opening of a new public library in Sibu Jaya yesterday.

The double- storey facility, situated next to the Sibu Jaya police station, is equipped with wifi service, computers and air- conditione­d reading corners for children and adults, to name a few.

that the ( library) building was designed by Sibu Rural District Council ( SRDC) under the capable leadership of its chairman and his team.

Wong said the public library would be able to fulfil the wish of the local community.

The Sibu Jaya public library, Wong said also came equipped with ‘ Sistem Angkasa’ which allowed registrati­on of members and the cataloguin­g of books.

The system also facilitate­s the search of books through OPAC to find out whether a certain book is available in the library or not.

Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee, Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King, SRDC chairman Councillor James Laju and deputy chairman Oliver Kuo were among those present.
