‘Declaration a desperate move’

KUCHING: The declaration announced by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and several leaders including Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is a desperate effort to oust Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

This comment came from Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf who described Dr Mahathir’s move to remove Najib as vindictive and one that made the opposition lose their remaining shred of political integrity.

“They (the opposition) joined forces with a man they had condemned for decades for neglecting Sarawak’s development during his time, whereas Najib had contributed a lot to Sarawak,” said Fadillah who is also PBB Youth chief and Petra Jaya MP in a statement sent to the media yesterday.

Fadillah said Barisan Nasional Sarawak recognised Najib’s effort and contributions and gave support based on these rather than political desperation.

“He has given his commitment to our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and we are looking forward to greater contributions for the welfare and benefit of all Sarawakians,” he said.

He said the statement issued by state Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leader Baru Bian on the issue was proof that PKR and DAP Sarawak were unable to free themselves from the dirty and unprincipled politics of their respective masters in the peninsula.

Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) Minister Datuk Madius Tangau said the nation had its own democratic system to elect a leader.

“Therefore the people should not be easily influenced by such a move as it is an undemocratic way to oust a leader,” Madius said in a press conference after officiating at an event in Kampung Samariang Batu yesterday.

Madius who is also Tuaran MP and Upko deputy president said the election was the right channel to voice a dissatisfaction and since everyone has a right to cast votes, why must he do it now? He urged the people to properly choose their source of news and be extra careful with information, especially those from the social media.
